Bedtime Stories (Storytelling Library: December, 2006)

Onion Soup makes me happy [this is not me, this is a character... I am just acting]

Onion soup makes me happy
'cause
it's my favorite food.

I eat it all the time,
and my mommy likes it,
and my little sister likes it,
and my dad does not like it.

I like how it tastes.

It tastes
soft, 'cause it's in the soup
strong, 'cause it makes your cry
and like onions, 'cause it is onions.

It's hot, hot, hot.
So hot, that you'll burn your tongue if you're not careful,
so be careful…
unless your parents say don't be careful
because they don't like you
and they want you to burn your mouth.

But don't listen to them,
I like you,
and I don't want you to burn your mouth.

Have fun,
– Josie

The Crazy Candy Man

The Crazy Candy Man
was crazy
because
he never cleaned up
his store.

It had candy all over the floor.

Clean candy
on a
clean floor.

Not sticky,
icky,
nor sicky.

His candy shop was filled
with Smarties,
and M&M's,
and chocolates,
and gummy worms,
and gummy bears,
and gummy cherries,
and bubblegum,
and caramel.

And all the schools,
and the children,
and the grown-ups
wanted to buy
The Crazy Candy Man's
candy.

Have fun,
– Josie

Avinash who knew three languages [Children's story from India by guest artist]

This great story was written by P. R. Ramachander,
a wonderful storyteller from Bangalore, India.

There was a rich man in the city of Varanasi. He had a son called Avinash.

From his birth, Avinash was not interested in learning anything, so Avinash's father decided to send him to Nalanda to learn under a great Guru.

After one year Avinash's father asked him, “What have you learned,” and Avinash replied, “I have learnt the language of the dogs.”

The rich man was very unhappy and decided to send him to study under a great Guru in Ujjain.

After one year when the rich man asked Avinash, “What he has learned?” Avinash replied, “I have learned the language of the birds.”

The rich man was terribly unhappy and decided to send him to learn under a Guru in Kanchi. This time Avinash replied, “I have learned the language of fishes.”

The rich man got very angry with Avinash and asked his people to take Avinash to the forest and leave him there.

Just hear those sleigh bells jingle-ing
Ring ting tingle-ing too
Come on, it's lovely weather
For a sleigh ride together with you

Outside the snow is falling
And friends are calling "You Hoo"
Come on, it's lovely weather
For a sleigh ride together with you

Christmas Waltz [beautiful song by guest artist]

This is a special gift, written on the 23rd as a gift for the 24th.

Everyone's rushing and pushing around,
Got things to buy got to head downtown,
But I don't have money and no where to be,
And I'm happier at home having you with me.

If I had money I know what I'd do,
Well I'd pile it all up and spend time with you,
For to buy anything else it just wouldn't be wise,
I've got all I need when I'm lost in your eyes.

I've got a wish list with twelve different things,
From gadgets and gear to being able to sing,
But the only wish I know will come true,
Is to wake up as happy as I am with you.

Others may wonder and others may cry,
“What happens to me, to us, when we die!”
But I've seen all I need to run out of life,
I’ve spent a moment lost in your eyes.

I've all I could ask for on this Christmas Day,
And if I had anything more ah then what could I say?
I've got family and friends, good love on the rise,
I have you and lost in your eyes.

Santa Claus is coming to town with a catapult (so you better watch out for this free Christmas video game)

Help save Christmas! Santa Claus lost his reindeer and sleigh, and needs your help. He has to find a new way to fly, otherwise no one will get their presents on Christmas Eve.

You better watch out,
You better not cry,
You better not holler I'm telling you why,
It's time to play this video game and help Santa fly!

One of Santa's elves created a catapult (sling shot) to help ol Saint Nick fly… he saw it in an action movie. So will it work? No one knows, but Santa's ready to test this little elf's invention.

Have fun and enjoy the free video game,
– Josie
